I am pleased to announce that today is the natal day of one [livejournal.com profile] sailorjim, aka Sailor Jim Johnson, aka "the guy who tells those REALLY good stories". He's a right good bloke & not at all stuck up. ;)

Thanks for brightening my world...here's hoping yours stays bright. :)

Happy 50th, [livejournal.com profile] sailorjim!!!!!

(If you're looking for him, you can also find him at [livejournal.com profile] sailor_jim.)

...to my friend [livejournal.com profile] betnoir.

Apparently, thanks to my being largely avoidant of the computer yesterday, I missed her natal day. She was my Pirate Captain years ago, when I was Ship's Owl, and now she's just a friend.

So, cake is better late than never - have some:

Happy Birthday!
A very Happy Birthday to my "evil" twin Skippy, [livejournal.com profile] ero.

You've had a rough year, and I wish I could've made it better, but I'm still here when you need me.

Love you, doll.

Have some cake:

Does anyone know what happened to [livejournal.com profile] soaring_phoenix? Her journal is showing as deleted, and I was concerned. Not that we're *close* friends, but I've enjoyed getting to know her & was rather startled tonight.

I'll screen comments in case there's something sensitive going on. But if someone else who knows her could fill me in, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
[livejournal.com profile] cadhla, a friend of mine (and a fabulous musician) posted a list of rules for any con suite in her journal. I recommend people read them, as well as the comments since there are...addenda. ;)

Con Suite
A very happy birthday & many happy returns to [livejournal.com profile] kshandra!!!

Hope you're still having fun doing things Because You Can...

And because I can't (in person) - have some cake:

indyellen: (Gopher)
Seriously large amounts of Hippo Birdies to my friend [livejournal.com profile] katmandu07.

Also large amounts of cyber-hugs.

Also cake:

I would like to take this opportunity to wish my friend [livejournal.com profile] trcabbage a very very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

I got you a cake:

Hope you have a great day!

Many, many happy returns to the delightful [livejournal.com profile] sammy_grrrl. I'm sorry I didn't get to send you a card, but I hope you're having a WONDERFUL day.

Here are some penguins to celebrate with you:

Happy Birthday, Sweetie!

the most excellent [livejournal.com profile] per_solo!!!!

I missed his birthday yesterday (3/26) because I was a lump and not on the computer much, but I want to make sure EVERYBODY knows to wish him a Happy Birthday - 'cause he's one of the coolest people I know.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PER!!!!!

Have some cake:

I've had a lot going on lately both in my head & in life. I really want to post about it, but I'm still feeling kind of scattered, so I just wanted to post to let people know I'm still here, and you can expect an update within the next day or two, if not later tonight.

*sigh*
Well, as I was browsing my friends list, I found this thoughtful essay from [livejournal.com profile] theferrett:

Say Fuck, Get Candy

It's about communication and rewards and that sometimes the behavior we *think* we're rewarding isn't the behavior that's getting rewarded at all.

Anyway, I'm still pondering on this; I suspect I've been on both sides of this equasion, but the essay is worth linking to if for no other reason than the fact that I intend to ponder on it for a while.

More later, after this has had time to percolate.
Well, they asked me to tell my friends, and while I don't do everything I hear on the radio, in this case I'm making an exception.

I will encourage people to listen to WKLU 101.9 FM out of Indianapolis. They are a non-corporate radio station which plays a good range of music - mostly 70's & 80's with some 60's & 90's+ thrown in. The flavor is pretty much "classic rock" (Stones, U2, Steely Dan, Zepplin, Pat Benetar, Styx, etc.) They only stop for commercials once an hour (around x:50) and only play 4 commercials per break.

They've started adding traffic reports and some canned news reports (from one of the local affiliates) in the morning and traffic in the afternoons. They play requests. They have live on-air personalities - good ones who don't chatter too much.

If you're not local, they also have a streaming feed off the website.

Anyway, if that's your kind of music, I am hereby "telling my friends" about them. If you aren't listening to them already, you might want to give them a try. If you don't like 'em, that's not my fault, but I'm all for anyone who's against corporate (*cough*ClearChannel*cough*) radio.

This has been an unpaid, unpolitical announcement. I now return you to your regularly scheduled blather.
How much space at a convention do you actually *need* to run a LARP (of any flavor)? Do you need actually need a room for this, or is setting up with a common "point" for people to come back to the storyteller enough?

We're planning for the convention since our hotel footprint is reduced - we don't want to cut out the LARPers, but we (Tony & I) simply don't know what's involved.

Thanks!
Well, today has been an interesting day on several different levels:

I slept in fairly late, even with Jessica here. It was a decent rest. When I woke up, I got an email that changed the course of a number of things - someone (who was making trouble) has removed them self from the equation. It will make life both easier & more complicated.

Jessica had a Girl Scout ice skating party today; I was getting ready to take a shower to go, and slipped & fell in the tub. Scared the HELL out of myself, Tony, & Jessica. (Tony has spent part of the afternoon putting traction things in the tub so no one will slip anymore.) I'm sore where I landed; it could be worse, I didn't hit my head or anything, but my left side (mostly) is sore in the hip, arm, and shoulder. Also my ankle. My right side is a little sore - that's the side that grabbed for the shower curtain to try to balance myself. On the plus side, the shower rod stayed up - well built.

Re: the skating - Jessica had never been skating before. She ended up doing pretty well, overall. Her first few times she wouldn't leave the wall of the rink, but her GS leader helped her, as did her troop mates, and she eventually left the wall holding on to a traffic/safety cone that the rink was letting little ones use to help them stay up. But she didn't fall much, and she was in good spirits & NOT terrified, which pleased me greatly.

Both she & Tony are currently napping. I'm sitting here partially because it's a different position & feels better, and partly to stay awake myself, although I probably *could* nap.

I think I might play a little Scrabble & chill out.
Before it slips away from me, I must wish a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] sexyexpy!!!!

Have some cake!

(Hope you like chocolate...what? Of *course* you do.) ;)
...but not yet.

Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] fayq!

Have some cake!

I don't know if she even reads her LJ anymore, but Many Happy Returns to [livejournal.com profile] cecylyna on her birthday!

Miss ya, Cec! Have some cake:

Well, it's happened...someone gave me responsibility. ;)

I was elected Vice-President of Circle of Janus (COJ, our local SF/F club) on Saturday. My main responsibility is meeting munchies, but I'm also 2nd in command. That part is also interesting, because [livejournal.com profile] royalcrow was elected President. :)

There's a lot going on in the club right now...mostly apathy, compounded by money problems & misinformation. There are issues about becoming/being a non-profit that have me *very* frustrated, because it's nowhere near as complicated or distressing as it has been made to appear to/by the club members. I did some research, and Tony is going to get with the new Treasurer to go over what I found. Anyway, I hope it can be resolved quickly & smoothly.

We're also having to deal with issues with the Convention...and the conchair. I'm not going to go into them in detail right now; I'll just get aggravated, and I'd like to have a *reasonably* relaxing evening.

Had other interesting things happen this weekend - most of which will be seen in friends-locked posts from me later. I will say, however, that I'm not entirely sure I'm happy with the way Wild Card weekend played out in the NFL playoffs. I *really* wanted the Bengals to win, but I'm happier that we're playing Pittsburg first rather than New England. Mixed blessings...but I send lots of positive thoughts that the Bengals QB gets over his injury quickly and can come back to as good a season next year as they had this year. Oh, and don't get me started about Tony Dungy NOT being Coach of the Year. Grrrr.

That's it for now...more later.
I already posted this over in [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes, but I was so amused I wanted to share it here, too. ;)

QWP from a post by [livejournal.com profile] cadhla here (about new Diet Black Cherry Vanilla Coke):

"This soda tastes of cheap plastic and formaldehyde; it's like drinking the ceremonial burial draught of one of Strawberry Shortcake's dearest friends. Maybe you can't spell slaughter without laughter, but that doesn't mean that my soda should be conjuring up horrible visions of Viking funerals being conducted by the good citizens of Berryland."
