I don't have any veterans in my immediate family; my Dad did a stint in the Army somewhere between Korea & Vietnam, but he may have been Reserves - I don't recall. A great-uncle fought in the Battle of the Bulge, though.

Tony's Dad was in Vietnam...but that's a story for him to tell.

However, each day I gripe about the government - or worship whomever I please - or vote, for that matter - I *do*, in fact, thank a veteran. I might be a pacifist (in general), but I must respect those who have chosen a different path - especially so I can chose the path I have.

So for those of you who are on my Friends List who are veterans - THANK YOU. For those of you who have (or have lost) family members who are/were veterans - THANK YOU. For each and every member of the Armed Forces who care enough even to fight a war I never wanted - THANK YOU.

And those of you, like me, who have never had a veteran in their close family, find one & say THANK YOU.

I took Joseph to school one morning, and was still there when the Pledge of Allegiance came over the intercom. Another mother in the school lobby stopped to salute the flag, so I did likewise. When it was done, and we were walking out, she looked at me and asked which service I'd been in, with the comment that she'd been in the Army for 6 years, and that the only people she saw who stopped for the Pledge like that were other veterans. I told her no, I was an Air Force brat, but it made me think. Those who have served in the military don't take this country for granted - and neither should the rest of us.
